The Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS)

General Purpose of the Test: The ITBS (Iowa Test of Basic Skills) is used by school districts and home schooling families to assess student achievement in the areas of reading, language, mathematics, science, social studies, and sources of information.

Developed by: University of Iowa, College of Education. Published by Riverside Publishing.

The test sections consist of: Vocabulary, Word Analysis, Listening, Reading Comprehension, Language (including Spelling, Usage, Capitalization, and Punctuation), Math (including Concepts and Estimation, Problem Solving and Data Interpretation, and Computation), Social Studies, Science, and Sources of information (including Maps and Diagrams, and Reference Materials.
