Grades 2-3. Develops vocabulary, reading,
mathematical reasoning, and analytical skills.
Building Thinking SkillsŪ
provides verbal and nonverbal reasoning activities to improve
vocabulary, reading, writing, math, logic, and figural-spatial skills, as well
as visual and auditory processing. This skill set provides a solid
foundation for academic excellence and success on any
assessment test,
such as: Otis-Lennon School Abilities Test
(OLSAT),
Cognitive Abilities Test
(CogAT),
Naglieri NonVerbal Abilities Test
(NNAT),
Iowa Test of Basic Skills
(ITBS) and
more.
The activities are sequenced developmentally.
Each skill (for example, classifying) is presented first in the semi-concrete
figural-spatial form and then in the abstract verbal form. Children learn to
analyze relationships between objects, between words, and between objects and
words.
Skills assessed in a particular test listed are addressed in the resource. We do not claim that the materials match up exactly to each test or teach all the skills measured in a particular assessment.
Higher Order Thinking Skills Activities:
Logical Thinking, Similarities & Differences, Sequences,
Classifications, Analogies, Antonyms & Synonyms, Spatial Awareness, Vocabulary
Development, Following Directions, Descriptive Writing, Geometry Concepts, Map
Reading, Graphic Organizers and more.
