The TAKS (Texas
Assessment of Knowledge and Skills)
"The Texas
Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) is
state-created standardized achievement test used to measure the content
knowledge of Texas public school students. Generally administered
in Texas schools during April, many schools administer practice tests
during late January and early February.
Content areas assessed within TAKS are: writing,
reading, math, science, and social studies. From grades 3 to grade
11 at least one test is taken with some tests required for promotion to
the next grade. Critical thinking and critical analysis skills are
embedded within the test. Recommended parent/tutor resources are for
test preparation and building the critical thinking/analysis skills
